Carnage carnage |ˈkärnij|
the killing of a large number of people.
A lot of those close to me know that I have a fascination for zombies. I love shows like The Walking Dead; zombie-like movies such as 28 Days Later; games like Zombie Tsunami, Left 4 Dead or spooky ones like Silent Hill. I may be a scaredy cat but I somehow see the “beauty” in these horrible creatures. I think I’ve put my love of zombies into some of the short films I’ve made for school. The first one was a love story gone wrong and the second one I did is a trailer. For one of our classes, we had to make a trailer to a movie and I decided it would be about… A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY! NAAAT. Zombies, duh. While talking to my group mates James and Riel, we decided it would be something showcasing that it’s the end of the world. Man is fighting for his life and he is fighting hard but sadly, losing the battle. We wanted it to be short and simple but with impact.
We got one of James’ friends, Lance to be in it since we only needed one actor. I was assigned as the production designer for this project. We shot in James’ room but we needed to fix it up a bit since we needed a hideout vibe.
For Lance, we put baby oil in his hair so that it would seem like he hadn’t showered in days. I made his hands dirty with makeup and the same with his face. I used red lipstick and brown eyeshadow for the cuts on his face.
I just LOVED how the light was captured in the shots. We had an extra backlight because the sun wasn’t strong enough. We also used an LED light so that we wouldn’t just capture a silhouette. Thanks to the amazing DOP skills of Riel, superb lighting skill of James and kickass production design skill of mine, I think our group pulled this one off. Enjoy!
